The Maryland Acoustic Hover Chamber is a 30-ft high hover chamber with a 18-ft octagonal cross-section with inlets and outlets to minimize re-circulation.
Features:
- A dedicated rotor test stand
- Array of microphones
- Particle image velocitymetry (PIV) equipment
- A test control area
- Model staging area
- Dedicated model and sensor development room
Test stands of various types can be installed to support rotors of different types, multiple rotors, and full small-scale UAS configurations.
The model and sensor development room has a 4-axis CNC machine, dedicated data acquisition system, and various equipment for sensor development, integration, and benchtop testing.
Designed for acoustic rotor testing

Maryland's acoustic chamber combines acoustic treatment, controlled airflow and precision measurement capabilities for rotor hover testing.
Acoustic wedges line the test space, while a microphone array captures rotor noise.
Dedicated air inlets and outlets help limit re-circulation around the centrally located rotor test rig.
