Facilities

The Alfred Gessow Rotorcraft Center at the University of Maryland is home to supporting facilities and hardware that include hover and vacuum chambers, as well as the university’s Glenn Martin Wind Tunnel, which are key campus assets that enable unique high-speed rotorcraft testing.

While private industry and the Department of Defense (DoD) have similar rigs, UMD is the only academic institution in the U.S. that has this equipment available for basic research and to train graduate students, giving them an edge as they enter the rotorcraft field.

The Alfred Gessow Rotorcraft Center is not only producing critical data, but it is also building a pipeline for future rotorcraft engineers and leaders.
